Gunmen kidnap DPO, 5 others in Niger

The Divisional Police Officer attached to the Sarkin Pawa Police Division in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State, Amos Ali, his orderly and four others have been kidnapped by gunmen.


It was gathered that the DPO and his orderly, a-yet-to-be-identified corporal ran into a blockade mounted by the gunmen Sunday morning on their way from Minna to Sarkin Pawa, near Kunbwada community.


The kidnappers had reportedly demanded N16 million ransom.


The bandits were said to have released some bullets into the air to scare passersby, in the process of which stray bullets hit a trader and a pregnant woman.


The trader was said to have died at the Minna General hospital few hours later, while the woman is recuperating.


Meanwhile, the Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Adewale Babalola, said he was in a meeting and could not talk at the time of this report.
